Herbal Recipes for Cold and Flu Season
Everyone needs some ideas for a natural medicine cabinet that supports your body during the winter cold and flu season. Here are some ideas for things you can have on hand.
Beef Bone Broth
You might wonder why I am putting this under the drink category. Adding bone broth to your coffee or hot cocoa is an easy way to incorporate this nutritional powerhouse. I buy my bones from a local farmer that I trust. I also throw in herbs. I use this bone broth in any recipe calling for water or broth.
Sumac Cider
Sumac’s red berries make a wonderful cider to enjoy in the fall. I harvest my berries from locations away from pollution and before they get too dried out. Place your berries on a white towel and use a fork to get berries separated from the plant.
Herbal Marshmallows
You can’t have a hot cocoa recipe and not have marshmallows. I love to make these myself because they are so much better tasting. Gelatin is a great ingredient for people whose guts need a little TLC. You can change the flavor by changing the herbs.
Mushroom Hot Cocoa
This drink is one that I like to make for my kids. You can use any mushroom powder that you like, but my favorite is Real Mushroom hot cocoa mix. It gives you a head start and I think they have the best mushroom products on the market.
Adaptogenic Chai
This chai recipe is made without the use of black tea which you find in most chai blends. I wanted to be able to drink it in the afternoon. The trick here is to cook for a long time to get a bold flavor. I think it’s best with oat milk, but regular whole milk is fine too. This recipe was adapted from Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine.
Dandelion Mocha
This drink saved me when I was cutting out my daily afternoon coffee habit. It’s also packed with prebiotics which will aid in gut health.
